Porthilly Pacific Oysters are cultivated and harvested from inter-tidal waters at the River Camel Estuary, Porthilly, Rock, Cornwall, England.

Freshest oysters possible
Porthilly Pacific Oysters remain at the River Camel Estuary, from seed until harvested for market.

Once harvested, these oysters are cleaned and purified in natural seawater, packed live to order in boxes, and dispatched by the oyster farm's depuration and dispatch centre (Monday to Thursday), for next day courier delivery to our clients' addresses in mainland UK (Tuesday to Friday).

Store and consume
Store oysters in the fridge and consume within five days from delivery.

Oysters can be consumed raw or cooked.

Shells: Elongated, fluted.

 

Shell cup depth: Medium.

 

Brininess: 6/10.

 

Meat to shell ratio: 8/10.

 

Meat: Plump, firm.

 

Succession of flavour notes:

Established in 1980, and family owned and operated; Porthilly oyster farm covers four sites on both sides of inter-tidal waters at the River Camel Estuary, near the coastal settlement of Porthilly, Rock, Cornwall, England.

 

Porthilly Oyster farm is the only oyster farm in north Cornwall.

 

The River Camel Estuary is a 'Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. As a protected landscape, the River Camel Estuary has the same status and protection as a National Park. The River Camel Estuary includes four Sites of Special Scientific Interest. The River Camel is a Designated Special Area of Conservation.

 

As one of the few safe havens on the north coast of Cornwall, the River Camel Estuary has been used since Roman times. The River Camel and its tributaries are crossed by more listed bridges than any other river in Cornwall. Of these, Wadebridge is the oldest and was built in the 15th century. The name 'Camel' is derived from the Middle Cornish name 'Cal-Em' and means 'Crooked One', which reflects the various twists and turns of the River Camel.

 

Cornwall Good Seafood Guide and Cornwall Wildlife Trust recommend Porthilly Pacific Oysters as a resposnible and sustanably harvested seafood product, This status endorses the excellent management practices by Porthilly oyster farm.

 

In recent years, Porthilly Pacific Oysters has won the 'Best Pacific Oyster' award at the British Oyster Championships. This award is decided by expert judges who carry out blind taste tests and rate the oysters from Britain and Ireland on appearance, meat-to-shell-ratio, and flavour.

 

Porthilly Pacific Oysters take 24 to 36 months to reach market size.

 

Porthilly Pacific Oysters are featured on menus at top oyster bars, restuarants, and hotels in the UK and overseas.
