The Port Navas oyster fishery carries out re-population practices to increase Native Oyster stocks in Port Navas Creek and the Helford River. Over time, Helford Native Oysters should become abundant in these waters.

These Native Oysters currently start life in specially made ponds (of about 30 metres in length and 30 metres in width and a few metres deep) in Cork, Ireland. When the oyster seeds reach 5mm in size, they are moved to waters at nearby Belvelly Channel where they develop to market size. After that, they are moved to Port Navas Creek, Helford River, Cornwall, England to develop further and benefit from the nutrient-rich waters of the Helford River. This entire process takes 4 to 5 years.

The Port Navas oyster fishery covers an area of inter-tidal waters at the Helford River, near the village of Port Navas, Helford, Cornwall, England. Oysters have been cultivated and landed at Port Navas since medieval times to date. The Helford River is part of a Special Area of Conservation, a Site of Special Scientific Interest, and Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

The village of Port Navas (called "Cove" until the 19th century) is at the head of Port Navas Creek (one of seven creeks off the Helford River). Port Navas is located within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
