Loch Ryan Native Oysters are wild and sustainably fished from traditional Native Oyster beds in sub-tidal waters at Loch Ryan, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

The Loch Ryan Oyster Fishery is the oldest and only commercial wild oyster fishery in Scotland. In 1701 the rights to fish oysters from the whole of Loch Ryan (a natural and sheltered harbour in south west Scotland) was bestowed to the Wallace family by King William III; and this Royal Charter has been retained by the Wallace family ever since.

Freshest and finest oysters possible
Loch Ryan Native Oysters remain in Loch Ryan from seed until market size (takes 4 to 5 years).

Once harvested, these oysters are cleaned, purified in natural seawater, and packed live to order in boxes at the oyster fishery's depuration and dispatch centre (Monday to Thursday) for next day courier delivery to our clients' addresses in mainland UK (Tuesday to Friday).

Store and consume
For the freshest and best flavour, store Native Oysters in the fridge and consume within 2-3 days from delivery. Oysters can be consumed raw or cooked.

For centuries, Loch Ryan Native Oysters have been fished from traditional Native Oyster beds at Loch Ryan, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland.

 

In 1701, the rights to fish oyster from the whole of Loch Ryan - a natural and sheltered harbour in south west Scotland - was bestowed to the Wallace family by King William III. This royal charter has been retained by the Wallace family ever since.

 

Loch Ryan (about 8 miles length and 3 miles in width) is the oldest and only commercial wild Native Oyster fishery in Scotland.

 

For many years, the Loch Ryan Oyster Fishery has carried out repopulation practices to increase Native Oyster stocks in Loch Ryan. As a result, Loch Ryan Native Oyster stocks have increased from one million in 1996 to about 60 million today. The Loch Ryan Oyster Fishery has won the 'Stewardship' Award at the Scottish Marine Aquaculture Awards for the 'Repopulation of the Loch Ryan Oyster Beds for the Next Generation'.

 

In recent years, Loch Ryan Native Oysters has won the 'Best Native Oyster' award at the Scottish Shellfish Growers Conference; and the 'Best Native Oyster' award at the British Oyster Championships.

 

Loch Ryan Native Oysters are featured on menus at top oyster bars, restaurants, and hotels in the UK.

 

The Stranear Oyster Festival is held at the town of Stranear on the shores of Loch Ryan in September each year. This festival attracts tens of thousands of people, who enjoy oysters, local food and drink, live music, entertainment and activities.
